So I watched this show 3 times before I even considered writing a post about it...this show is confusing! I mean...I consider myself a pretty intelligent person, and figuring out TV show plots is one of my strengths in life...but I have no idea what is happening!
So the show opens with a bunch of Navy guys on a submarine (in my head...warning, warning...you hate military shows/movies...but I persisted). They are laughing about going home soon and it is made obvious that they are simply running drills and tests, NOTHING serious. Until...yeah of course the story changes. Suddenly they are sent a message that they are supposed to NUKE an island! Problematically (well in my opinion one of MANY problems with this order) the order came through a secondary communication line. This line is ONLY to be used if the primary source (that would be DC) is destroyed. So they check the TV (on a sub?? awesome) and there is NO evidence of anything going on in DC. So our heroes of course hesitate and call DC to substantiate the order. Big no-no to disobey an order apparently...even a questionable one from questionable sources. Basically what it boils down to is that no one gives them a good answer and instead a second American ship is sent to kill them!
So now it is on...the original sub (a test run of the newest and most awesome weapon EVER) is facing off with America! They don't (and neither do we as an audience) know what is going on or if they are even in the right for sure, but they stand their ground. And that is basically what the show is about (to make a long complicated story very short and a tiny bit less complicated).
I am kinda liking it A LOT more than I thought I would. I zone out some during the super military parts, I just don't care or like them. This adds to the confusion of the show for me, but the confusion is kind of what I like. It is interesting. I have no real guesses at who is behind anything. I find myself curious but not sure who is the "bad guy" vs who is the "good guy". I totally don't know. It feeds on the paranoia of the day and the dystopian love affair I have had for years, but that has finally come to the general public as well (thank you Hunger Games). I have fervent hopes (but cautious ones at best) that they can keep this up. I love not figuring it all out!
So for now anyway, Last Resort stays on my DVR!
oh and I guess I should mention...since it is the real reason I chose to try this show at all...it stars Scott Speedman...yeah I know...shut up
