Revolution

So of all the new shows this season, THIS is the one I have been most excited about! It is a new show by J.J. Abrams (who is THE best...obviously) and it just sounded intriguing. But....I have to admit that after I saw the preview, I was less than enthused. It did not grab me. It did not excite me. I felt like it showed too much, and yet was still not enough to look good. To say I was disappointed would be putting it mildly. I don't give up easily, though. I had faith in the Abrams and decided to watch it anyway.

I LOVED the pilot episode. I described it to a friend as a little bit Hunger Games, a little bit Jericho, and just for laughs an actor from Twilight thrown in. (just as an FYI...LOVE hunger games, LOVED Jericho, HATE twilight...). I am not quite sure how to "review" this show though. First off I don't want to give much away because I feel strongly that if you have not checked it out yet, you should go and do so...probably right now. :) Also, it is complex with lots of things going on. YES! I love complex TV shows that are hard to explain. (Unfortunately the rest of the world tends to complain about them and they don't always last very long...we shall see).

The show is (basically) a dystopian story set in a future world where all electricity has been lost. With no computers, no vehicles, no lights etc. the world falls into mass chaos. The governments all fall and the TV show opens on an America that is run but a militant group that is seen as fairly cruel and are quickly painted as the "bad guys". The story seems to be focused (though not entirely...as I said...complex) on a family. The father is killed off and the son is taken into custody, leaving the daughter along with some other adventurers to set off in search of her Uncle who she believes will take on the militia to get him back.

Side stories (that seem quite important) include some sort of secret device given by the father to one of the other group members before his death and well as other identical devices that have been seen to....wait for it, run a computer!!!

So the basic deal is...who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? Why is there no electricity? Do some people HAVE electricity? Why would they keep it away?....Etc. Etc. Etc.

I watched episode 2 last night and I have to say, I am hooked. I love this show. The Uncle is so far my favorite and....naturally just to make me laugh at myself....he is the guy who was in Twilight. In Twilight movies he plays this hillbilly DAD of the main girl who is sweet but just kinda dumb and clueless. Shave the man's moustache and give him some decent clothes and suddenly he is the HOT badA lead character that I love. Go figure...

I cannot wait to see what comes next.
