I wouldn't say any day this year has been the best day ever...but I just started thinking about those cute jokes about dogs and how even the smallest thing makes every day the BEST day ever!! Sometimes I wish we were more like dogs in that way. Good things happen all the time, but it seems as people we let the less good things dictate how we feel way too often.
I would have to say, in terms of this year the BEST thing that has happened so far was probably my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary/Vow Renewal. This is something I have wanted to do for them for a long time. My sister and talked about it at least 5 years ago, possibly more!
This was an important thing for so many reasons. First 40 years these days....that is a BIG deal. I am so grateful to have a family that has stuck together and parents that I can look to for proof that real love does, in fact, exist and forever is, in fact, possible. Wow! Congrats on that mom and dad!!
It was also important because it was a celebration of both of their lives! Most people who know me know that my mom...she has been sick. Not just sick, she has stage 4 colon cancer! Basically, you don't come back from that. Mom has!! She just had another scan and....cancer free. Nothing showing up, no sign of the ugliness that had us living on borrowed time. This celebration was not just of their love but of their strength through this cancer. And not just the cancer. My dad is not very healthy either. He doesn't have a particular diagnosis like my mom, but sometimes that can be even scarier. What is going to happen next...no one really knows.
But you know what? They are both still here! They are both still in love! They are both awesome. So yeah...I would say celebrating that is pretty much the best thing in a long time!
