So fall has arrived and I sigh in happiness. I LOVE fall. I love the cooler weather, I love the colors and the leaves, and lets just be honest...I LOVE the TV!! It is premier time on TV and being a self proclaimed TVacholoic that just makes me happy!! I am a total junkie. Obviously all of the shows I already love coming back bring joy to my heart, but also I adore watching the pilots of all the new shows. I mean...as many as I can possibly get in. I might not continue to watch them if they don't strike me as good, but I try to see at least one episode of everything that looks even feasibly good to me.
This is a lot of work! I mean, no kidding, that is a lot of TV to get in! Thank goodness for the invention of the DVR...it is one of my favorite things in the world. (how shallow am I? EEK). Since Michael has come to live with me watching all this TV is even harder. I only really watch when he is either not home or after he goes to bed. I don't want our time together to be all TV time. (I know, total hypocrite...deal with it).
So all of that to say...I have decided to TRY to blog about all of the new shows I watch this year. Just a brief overview of what the show is and what my thoughts were. No real reason for this, I just thought it might be fun. Please feel free to jump in with comments on your own thoughts...that will make it much better! So first up...a comedy sitcom with a comedy favorite (Matthew Perry...I adore him)
GO ON (Tuesdays on NBC)
So comedy sitcoms are not really my favorite, or maybe I should say they have not traditionally been my favorite, but lately there have been some great ones (I am addicted to New Girl...) so I decided to give a couple of the new ones a chance this year. This one was a no-brainer. For me if Matthew Perry is in something, I am probably going to watch it. I love him! I think he is hilarious and yet emotional as well and I find I can always relate to his characters. So since he was the star of Go On it made it to my 'to watch' list right away.
Go On is about a sports newscaster whose wife has recently passed away...sounds hilarious right?....Hmmm. But naturally, it is. The show focuses on Perry's character learning to deal with his wife being gone. He attends a support group with other characters who have lost people, and I do mean characters! They are all quirky and odd and almost over the top, but also portray all the crazy ways that we, as real people, find to deal with grief. We also see him at work with his friends and co-workers and how he deals with that changing dynamic as well.
I have seen 2 episodes of this show so far and I have to say, I love it! It makes me laugh, which is a good thing. Sometimes my love of dramas can be a bit overwhelming as sitting down to watch TV often ends in hysterical sobbing and abject depression b/c I get REALLY involved in the lives of my characters! This show is real and parts of it can be sobering, but it is so funny that you find yourself laughing instead of crying...how great it would be if we could find ways to do that in real life!
So my opinion? Love it! Going to keep watching and think you should too! As an aside, though, I will say that I worry this sitcom might not last. Unfortunately Perry has had a string of good shows that just didn't get the attention they deserved (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip was AMAZING!! Mr. Sunshine maybe not amazing but hilarious and fun. Etc. Etc.) This show does feel similar to Mr. Sunshine in a lot of ways, so I hope it does not follow in that shows footsteps of only lasting for a single season.
